Quit being Eco Drama Queens

Excellent column at "No Frakking Consensus" today appropriate now that EVERYONE is FREAKING OUT about the Gulf Oil spill. Everyone is wearing the eco drama queen crown.

Well, it is time to be a grown up and look at some facts from "The Media, Mother Nature and Oil Spills". Reposted in its entireity:

"Green activists like to declare that we're addicted to oil. I think we're addicted to drama. We feel a powerful urge to call things a "crisis." No matter what the current problem might be, we behave as though it's new under the sun. Although our better judgment knows that a wide range of outcomes is possible, it's always the worst case scenario that grabs hold of our brains.

Regarding the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico here are a few facts:
  1. Thirty-one years ago, in June 1979, an oil well off the coast of Mexico blew. It discharged oil into the Gulf of Mexico for nearly 10 months before it was finally capped. The world did not collapse. The ecosystem was not permanently harmed.
  2. In early 1991, retreating Iraqi troops set fire to more than 600 Kuwaiti oil wells and then buried landmines nearby. While doomsters predicted it would take as long as a decade to extinguish these fires, all were brought under control within eight months. Environmental damage was extensive, but many of the most dramatic predictions – such as the one that postulated the entire planet would suffer effects similar to a nuclear winter - did not come to pass.
  3. In January 1991 Iraqi troops also deliberately emptied oil from tankers and storage facilities directly into the Persian Gulf – causing the largest oil spill in history. Two years later the New York Times reported that researchers (including UNESCO oceanic specialists) had found "little lasting damage." Coral reefs and fish had survived.
  4. In early 1996, an oil tanker ran aground off Britain, polluting 200 km (124 miles) of coastline. Three years later, when the BBC reported on the aftermath, it observed that visitors to the region could "see no evidence today of the dismal predictions some were making at the time of the spill." According to scientists who'd studied the matter extensively: "the general observation is of a quite astonishing recovery given the catastrophic damage caused to the shoreline in the short term."
  5. Half of all the oil entering the world's oceans is totally unconnected to humans. According to research published in a peer-reviewed academic journal in 2003: "Crude oil seeps are natural phenomenon over which humankind has little direct control."
In other words, while oil and water may not mix they're both a product of Mother Nature. She's been dealing with them competently for millions of years.

Journalists do love to go on about how supposedly "fragile" nature is. According to Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper the current oil spill threatens "fragile shorelines." The Associated Press says the environment overall as well as marshes specifically are fragile. Reuters mentions both the "fragile ecosystem" and the "fragile Louisiana marshlands" in the current version of its timeline.

But recent history tells us something rather different. It says that while human lives – and livelihoods – are indeed fragile, Mother Nature is more resilient than we give her credit for.

Let's get that well capped. Let's clean up the mess and do what we can for the affected wildlife. But really, the eco drama queen routine isn't necessary."

Well said, Donna, well said.

Will Chicago guv Blago trial reveal dodgy homosexual facts?

Funny picture, eh...

Well, the story isn't quite as "funny". If true, it certainly explains the holier-than-thou attitude Rod Blagojevich takes about being indicted.

Some say BHO went to Chicago recently doing behind the scenes recon for the Blago trial - or to (illegally of course) exert influence for this information to NOT become public.

Would the world or America even care if these guys are all gay? Maybe... maybe not. Mee-chelle and the kids would be upset (maybe... maybe not). The LYING is what matters.

Every time Obumbles opens his MOUTH a LIE comes out. No.Truth.Ever.

So was/is BHO a member of a gay club in Chicago as per BeforeItsNews? Follow up here from FellowshipOfMinds.

Maybe Rahm, too, from ZachJones... & BackyardConservative reports: Rahm been subpoena'd for Blago trial.

Blago trial starts THIS week: 3-Jun-2010... Tomorrow for you Americans.

Get your popcorn! Larry Sinclair is ready for vindication.

USA Gulf oil spill just big opportunity to push Crap N Tax

The worse the tragedy is for the Gulf of Mexico, the "better" for the Democrat aka Marxist/Communist regime squatting in the W.House.

WHY? Because THE a&&holes in charge WANT THE GUSHER TO KEEEP ON GUSHING!

Sorry Jindal, you'll have to do your OWN sand berms buddy... Good luck and don't count on any federal help.

From Reuters -YOUR CHALLENGE: spot the lies and propaganda!

My comments in italics.

Obama: fossil fuel dependence threatens U.S. security
(I'll start you off: the TITLE is propaganda! Not drilling LOCALLY and dependence on hostile FOREIGN governments SUPPLYING fuel threatens U.S. security.)

"President criticizes Republicans, wants their help" By Alister Bull (author's name is appropriate for this article)

"PITTSBURGH, June 2 (Reuters) - President Barack Obama pledged on Wednesday to find support in the Senate for a bill to overhaul U.S. energy policy, using the Gulf of Mexico oil spill to hasten production of cleaner renewable fuels. (<- umm, HELLO! This is the REASON to let the oil KEEP GUSHING!)

Obama, in remarks at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, also said he expected to see strong job growth reflected in the May jobs report to be released on Friday. (don't you mean job "growth" in government ONLY?)

The president had planned to focus his year on boosting jobs in the United States, where unemployment is hovering near 10 percent, but other issues -- healthcare reform, changes to financial regulation, and now the Gulf of Mexico oil spill -- have distracted attention from that.
Obama, a Democrat, accused Republicans of sitting on the sidelines while his administration worked to rescue the economy. But he also said he would seek their support to pass energy legislation in the U.S. Senate despite strong resistance ahead of November congressional elections. (pay back for Dems in November 2010 AND November 2012 will be a BITCH)

"The votes may not be there right now, but I intend to find them in the coming months," Obama said, referring to a bill that is languishing in the Senate.

"I will continue to make the case for a clean energy future wherever and whenever I can. I will work with anyone to get this done. And we will get it done," he said to applause. (never let any crisis go to waste to push nonsensical policies)

The House of Representatives has already passed a bill that would put limits on greenhouse gas emissions, but a similar effort has stalled in the Senate. ('greenhouse gas emissions' are GOOD and not BAD... earth's air layer KEEPS us on the planet)

Obama said the oil spill should prompt Americans to acknowledge that the United States could not depend solely on fossil fuels in the future. (hey dummies in charge: COAL plants are efficient and work fine... plenty of COAL to go around)

That meant tapping into U.S. reserves of natural gas, increasing the number of nuclear power plants, and rolling back "billions of dollars of tax breaks to oil companies so we can prioritize investments in clean energy research and development."

SHORT TERM SOLUTION
He said the United States could only pursue offshore drilling as a short-term solution to its energy needs and said U.S. dependence on fossil fuels threatened its security while putting the economy and the environment at risk. (drilling in REALLY deep water probably CAUSED this oil crisis: drilling CLOSER TO SHORE in shallower waters WOULD be BETTER!)

Obama also pushed his case for a system that would limit greenhouse gas emissions from industry, a key ingredient for the United States in a still elusive global agreement to fight climate change. ("climate change" is natural and NOT man made)

"The only way the transition to clean energy will ultimately succeed is if the private sector is fully invested in this future -- if capital comes off the sidelines and the ingenuity of our entrepreneurs is unleashed," he said.

"And the only way to do that is by finally putting a price on carbon pollution." (the "science" is NOT settled, there is NO carbon "pollution"!)

In the coming weeks Democrats in the Senate are expected to plot strategy for dealing with energy and environment legislation. Prior to Obama's remarks on Wednesday there was little evidence the Senate would take up a comprehensive measure this year." "

HillBuzz.org asks today, what would other (REAL) American LEADERS do?

Hey Pensacola Beach FL oily hopey changey comin' at ya

Lots of hopey changey stuff comin' at ya! .... errr.... the gulf oil spill approaches Pensacola Beach, north Florida coast... aaaaw sooo sad... might be bye-bye beautiful white sandy beaches...

And what is ol' helpful "leader" BHObumbles doing? Heading to a McCartney concert... in Pittsburgh... story at Gateway Pundit.

Pics of whatever else the usurper putative potus could get up to while he ignored / ignores the huge environmental disaster documented at Politipage and more here.

What an a&&hat... sooner that crew outta the people's white house, the better for the planet.

'Peace convoy' was an Islamist terror ambush

Think Israel's IDF forces "attacked" peaceful protestors trying to smuggle "goods" into Gaza?

Think again...

Melanie Phillips writes 'Peace convoy'? This was an Islamist terror ambush

"Gaza’s markets are full of produce, thousands of tons of supplies are travelling into Gaza every week through the Israeli-controlled border crossings, and there is no starvation or humanitarian crisis. It was always obvious that the flotilla was not the humanitarian exercise it was said to be. Here is footage of the IDF offering to dock the Marmara -- the main flotilla ship -- at Ashdod and transfer its supplies and being told ‘Negative, negative, our destination is Gaza’.

And now we can see that the real purpose of this invasion -- backed by the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH), a radical Islamic organization outlawed by Israel in 2008 for allegedly serving as a major component in Hamas’s global fund-raising machine -- was to incite a violent uprising in the Middle East and across the Islamic world. As I write, reports are coming in of Arab rioting in Jerusalem.

The notion – uncritically swallowed by the lazy, ignorant and bigoted BBC and other western media – that the flotilla organisers are ‘peace activists’ is simply ludicrous. This research by the Danish Institute for International Studies details the part played by the IHH in Islamist terror in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Chechnya. According to the French magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere testifying at the Seattle trial of would-be al Qaeda Millenium bomber Ahmed Ressamin, the IHH had played ‘[a]n important role’ in the al Qaeda Millenium bomb plot targeting Los Angeles airport. It was also involved in weapons trafficking, and played in addition a key role in galvanizing anti-Western sentiment among Turkish Muslims in the lead-up to the 2003 war in Iraq. ‘Peace activists’ these people most certainly are not."
- and -
"It is becoming ever more clear that Islamist terror attacks like this are fiendishly staged theatrical events in which the western media – and beyond them, western governments -- play an absolutely essential role in the drama. If those media and governments refused to swallow the lies and instead called operations like this and the players behind it for what they actually are, such terrorist operations would not happen. The Islamist strategy of war against Israel is carefully calibrated to deploy the most effective weapon in its armoury in the cause of jihadi violence – the western media. Right on cue, western governments accordingly deliver their own script in condemning the victims of terror for defending themselves. And so, courtesy of the west’s fifth columnists, yet another nail is driven into the west’s own coffin.

Let’s see whether this time the western elites show any signs of waking from their lethal trance."
