Two books for the America haters like Haruhi Suzumiya who recently commented on a November 26, 2011 post of mine about communism:  Haruhi thinks more people die under capitalism.

WAKE UP! Go learn TRUTH and HISTORY. 

To understand American history, start with The 5000 Year Leap or The Making of America.

To understand economics - try a little Milton Friedman Capitalism and Freedom or Free to Choose which one reviewer says "Free to Choose" (1980) is a great companion to Friedman's ten hour video presentation by the same name that appeared on PBS in the early eighties to rave reviews and some of the highest ratings in PBS history. The video series was extremely well done and taken right from this book. Friedman explains how and why markets work, why minimum wage statutes hurt instead of help unskilled labor (they price entry level or "training positions" out of the market) and why the Great Depression happened (protectionist tariffs like Smoot-Hawley devastating trade between nations was the primary reason).

Like Hayek and von Mises before him, Friedman explodes the Keynesian mythology that government spending is actually good for the economy. Moreover, this book is written for the layman. You don't need a PhD in economics or a Nobel Prize (both of which Professor Friedman has) to understand this work. It is clear, concise and cogently written.

If you want to understand why the market is ineluctable, this is a must read...and if you get the chance, I highly recommend the companion video series - some of the best work done on explaining why the free market works and planned/controlled economies fail.

It as timely today (despite the dated references) because the free market still works (it always will) and command/controlled economies always fail...this book tells why."

There are still sad sack people who "hate" Ronald Reagan which I find ludicrously silly.  There is discussion on the web about "Reagan haters".  Get a grip and get some therapy...

"Now that Ronald Reagan has passed on, the sniping has already begun. One newspaper columnist wrote that he hoped Reagan was now turning “a toasty brown,” insinuating that the man who saved a wrecked economy, restored America's morale and brought down the Soviet Union might somehow be rotting in Hell. Another columnist's wrote, “Killer, coward, conman. Ronald Reagan, good-bye and good riddance.”

Oh, but what about those deficits? Reagan gave us those, right? As a matter of fact, he did not. When you actually examine the record you'll find that Reagan submitted 8 budgets to Congress. All 8 were rejected. Only one of Reagan's budgets asked for more money than Congress ended up spending. That was in 1984 when Reagan's budget asked for 1.2 percent more. Pay attention to this part because it's real important. If Congress had adopted Reagan's budgets instead of their own, even including the 1984 budget, we would've seen a surplus in 1989.

That's not what the Reagan-haters want you to know but it's the truth. It's also true that his tax cuts, most of which he did get through Congress, jump-started the economy and we saw revenue to the treasury double during the 1980s from $517 billion to $1.031 trillion. These weren't tax cuts for the rich. They were across-the-board tax cuts. Naturally, the more you paid in taxes, the more you saved, but all taxpayers got a break and the economy came roaring back.

But even though revenues increased at a rate of nearly 100 percent during the ‘80s, spending, controlled by Congress, increased by about 112 percent. One of the real lessons of the Reagan years, which we've yet to learn, is don't outstrip the prosperity. That's what the state and federal governments did during the ‘80s and ‘90s."

There is a book by John Hayward which looks very interesting for more details on Reagan's presidency called Age of Reagan: The Conservative Counterrevolution, 1980-1989, description:

There have been many tributes to President Ronald Reagan besides detailed accounts of all facets of his presidency.  Did he make some mistakes?  Sure, but his love for America united the country.  That love for America NO LONGER EXISTS in Washington under the current communist-socialist-Marxist regime.  You voted for it so you will continue down the gurgler of statism until there is a REAL revolution.  (hint: probably why all those guns are being bought across America, so gird your loins!)  Open your mind, go back and really research the truths about Reagan when you need help trying to sort out what the hell happened to America under Commie-O: history will NOT be kind to the current commies...

Hobbit trilogy - the unexpected journey begins

Peter Jackson's movie "The Hobbit" premiers in Wellington NZ tonight.  Want to go? Sorry the way is shut. The planning for premier has been going on for 6 months. 

In 2012, NZ opposition Labour government was against employment law changes NZ National brought in with majority of votes - to get the film(s) made down here.  National says it was worth it to bring more tourism to NZ.  It is.  NZ is SMALL and needs the business. 

Now Labour big wigs invited to premier say they supported movie all along?  Hypocrites!

Well, bah humbug to them...

LOR and Hobbit Fans who come down to NZ can book a tour of the film locations through Red Carpet Tours.

Let's hope this film does bring more people down to beautiful Aoteoroa, the NZ economy needs them.

Beer run to Brat Stop with Hostess

You've heard about the many companies now letting people go ahead of Barry's Obamascare, right?

Guess what, as the USA economy continues to tank?  YOU OWN IT DEM-COMMIES!

Unions stink.  But Barry loves the unions. 

The net buzz this week is because 12 unions killed American iconic company Hostess.  TWELVE UNIONS?!?! 

Yes, they've been having troubles all year.

Recently posted at their web site:

"The BCTGM in September rejected a last, best and final offer from Hostess Brands designed to lower costs so that the Company could attract new financing and emerge from Chapter 11. Hostess Brands then received Court authority on Oct. 3 to unilaterally impose changes to the BCTGM’s collective bargaining agreements.
Hostess Brands is unprofitable under its current cost structure, much of which is determined by union wages and pension costs. The offer to the BCTGM included wage, benefit and work rule concessions but also gave Hostess Brands’ 12 unions a 25 percent ownership stake in the company, representation on its Board of Directors and $100 million in reorganized Hostess Brands’ debt.

“We deeply regret the necessity of today’s decision, but we do not have the financial resources to weather an extended nationwide strike,” said Gregory F. Rayburn, chief executive officer. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.”

 

"In addition to dozens of baking and distribution facilities around the country, Hostess Brands will sell its popular brands, including Hostess®, Drakes® and Dolly Madison®, which make iconic cake products such as Twinkies®, CupCakes, Ding Dongs®, Ho Ho’s®, Sno Balls® and Donettes®. Bread brands to be sold include Wonder®, Nature’s Pride ®, Merita®, Home Pride®, Butternut®, and Beefsteak®, among others.

The wind down means the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores throughout the United States."

So you got that?  Unions refused lesser pay so 18,500 members now have NO PAY AT ALL.  Hey lefty union goons, how is NOTHING better than less?

For kiwis, Americans are sad about Hostess the way you were sad Georgie Pie went away. There is even a "movement" in NZ to bring back Georgie Pie! I don't fully understand the fascination with small meat pies, but change it to Twinkies or Hostess Cherry Pie and I get it.  Those feelings of comfort at your nation's history shows up in their icons - and when they are lost.

For me, I didn't love Twinkies as much as their Cherry Pies.  I've owned a 3 different Mazda Miatas (MX5 in NZ).  In Chicago, with all the hot / cold / snow temperature changes, cars usually only last may 5-7 years.  I bought a shiny Red Miata in 1990, leased a black one in 1996 for 2 years and then bought a used green one in 2005.  Obviously I love them.

I've always been an independent person - I'm the oldest of 3 daughters and my dad bought us kids a car when I was 16.  I got my full driver's license soon as I turned 16 and I was mobile - driving us to school and driving myself all over the Chicago area.  I explored, partied (sssh, don't tell my folks), made a few trips up to Wisconsin border when I turned 18 just to buy booze.  When I could legally buy liquor, mom just said "oh, just have your parties here..." at our house - so I did.  I had a couple of really fun parties when I was 18...

Driving around as a teenager makes you feel free - life is yours for the taking.  Yes, I worked to make money for my own gas.  I remember hot summer days I was 18 - driving to Wisconsin down long, flat country highways.  Since I had to get around, I would often stop at gas (petrol) service stations to fill up.  And at every gas station, sitting in happy little shelves - were Hostess products.  Those Cherry Pies would always look up at me in their cute little white and red wrappers and say "you know you want me...!".  So, yep, I'd usually walk away after paying for gas with a little packaged pie. 

The easiest way to eat any flavor Hostess Pie is to gently tear open the very end of the wrapper enough to expose the sugared bakery crust.  Take a nibble or two or three then slide it further out to get to the next bites. This is of course SO easy to do when driving, put the pie in one hand - turn on the radio to some loud pop or rock and roll... roll down the window part way, not too much or your long blonde flings in your face - but enough to get a warm breeze and smell green grass or odors when passing a dairy farm on a country highway. 

Yep, that was me ->  age 18, driving down a Wisconsin 2 lane highway, full tank of gass, summer sunshine, green grass, farms, trunk full of beer, bottle of Jack Daniels, Coke ready to party - driving care free with a Hostess Cherry Pie in hand heading back to Wilmette, Illinois...

Last few weeks, I haven't been blogging... I've been busy... and sick... and reading lots of stuff. 

USA lamestream media is trying to convince Americans, and the rest of the world, that Romney's campaign is over and O will win in a landslide. 

Right. 

Sure. 

Anyway, I still don't have much time to blog about much.  I know you all will be voting for Romney in November.  Why would anyone in their right mind, with a small grain of common sense, ever continue to vote for O? 

In 2008 he won with 53% of those who voted.  It was 22% of the USA population.  Do you think ALL those people who voted last time STILL want to vote for O in 2012?  Are they HAPPIER and better off 4 years later?  Really............? 

Right.

Sure. 

And the middle east is burning... 20+ uprisings at American embassies last week... and counting.  Gay American ambassador killed: he was not being guarded by unarmed British security group USA had contracted for - KILLED in preplanned attack with 3 others in Libya. And the O admin APOLOGIZES to the killers?   USA flags burn, O effigies burn... The attack on Libya was PLANNED in advance, for goodness sakes... and the LYING media still says "oh, they are upset about a video"....

Right.

Sure.

So, yep, the world loves O... ALLLLLL of his 2008 supporters still LOVE LOVE LOVE him... even though they can't fill the DNC stadium and have to move to smaller venue for the O speech.  The economy is just FINE and GREAT under O...  Foreign policy of apologizing and appeasement is working just fine...  More solar and wind companies going bankrupt... fine, just fine... More money being printed with 'quantatative easing'... When you're broke, you keep spending and borrowing to recover... yep, works fine, just fine....

Right.....!

Now, step AWAY from the O koolaid.  Reality is here.  November is coming and American's will VOTE O out... in a landslide.  Now THAT I'm sure about.... I'M RIGHT!!!!!   :)

EPA has also proposed that some states be required to change their state implementation plan (SIP) to ensure GHG emissions are accounted for in the permitting of large new or expanded facilities, and to establish a federal implementation plan to apply to states that do not adopt such a SIP.
