monarch metamorphosis

In our garden this past month we've watched NZ Monarch caterpillars fight for survival on the milk weed swan plant. A few became chrysalis and later emerged into beautiful butterflies. It is an amazing feat of nature.  The Monarchs in N. American migrate to Mexico in winter.  Did you know that?  Here in NZ, noone is quite sure where or if they swarm or migrate.  Here's a quick sped up vid I found of the metamorphorsis process... and some snaps from my garden...
