ReplyDeleteIf you ever get the chance, you should read Ronald Reagan's speech that he gave to the very first CPAC conference in 1974. To me, it really drives home what "American Exceptionalism" has meant from the founding of the country. How the "revolutionaries were men of high status and had secure economic lives, but they valued liberty and freedom more. How the Delcaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are documents as important to how many relates to man as the Bible (Reagan calls them "immortal", I'm the one who says they rank almost as mportantly as the bible because they marked a radical redefintion of how governments had operated since civilization began). Here's the speech if you are interested. The first few parapgraphs are slow, but when then it kicks in:
