American culture is superior

Well of course it is. A great article by Stuart Schwartz at American Thinker explains why. Here is a tidbit:

"The choices made over time in the United States have produced a culture of greater value than what the American Heritage Dictionary defines as the "totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other products of human work and thought" produced by the other nations of the world. In other words, we have a culture superior to those of other nations. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, someone wise (probably not Charlie Sheen) once said. Its value shows in a citizenry that consistently leads the world in private charitable giving while basing politics and social mobility on God-given natural rights. Everyone from any culture may enjoy these rights once they legally join a polity inseparable from its Judeo-Christian value system. Here in this nation we have collectively created an existentially superior set of values, beliefs, and behaviors. For the vast majority of Americans, our Judeo-Christian culture works...and not only well, but better than anything else available.

"Aargh," you say? Double "aargh," even. What about all that stuff I was taught in school, the America for which our Professor-in-Chief has serially apologized? What about slavery, Jim Crow, and the hate crimes even now perpetrated against Muslims in the United States? Glad you brought that up. Slavery was abolished at great cost in lives and treasure, driven by the Christian narrative that all are equal in the eyes of God; however, it still exists in parts of the world where Judeo-Christian voices barely whisper. Jim Crow and segregation are gone, conquered by a culture that, as Dinesh D'Souza put it in What's So Great About Christianity, "assesses human worth not through power and possessions but through the virtue that we integrate into our daily lives." Meanwhile, segregation rules in Islamic countries where an official "two-tiered culture" is policed by religious leaders who resemble mafia dons rather than men of God, as Richard Butrick tells us in American Thinker. In Iran, women are required by law to shroud themselves from head to foot and travel in the backs of buses; the Iranian Rosa Parks was stoned, not celebrated. And about that Islamophobia -- ain't happening. Even reliably leftist and radical Islam-friendly CNN was forced to acknowledge that only a bit over 8 percent of the hate crimes in the United States are against Muslims, while almost three-quarters are against Jews.

American culture is superior. Period. This does not mean that every thought, every person in America is superior. Rather, it means that, all things considered, the world would be a better place if Judeo-Christian traditions were dominant. Gone would be the institutionalized hate endemic to tyrannical Islamic cultures where, by law and religious dictate, unbelievers and women are second class citizens who rely on the forbearance of a ruling class for existence. In America the exceptional, teachers are not slashed in the face and beaten senseless because they dare to educate girls. In America the exceptional, Judeo-Christian sensibilities do not celebrate savages who slit the throat of a sleeping three-month-old whose crime was "born Jewish." And in America the exceptional, our prison guards do not "rape female dissidents before executing them, lest their victims go to heaven as virgins." Nor does America the exceptional allow "the institutionalized slavery and rape of prepubescent girls."

Read the full article here. Take that you stupid Islamic nutballs... and if are reading this and you aren't living in America... perhaps you are in New Zealand. I'd be interested to learn why you think NZ is better than America as far as the CULTURE goes. NZ doesn't seem to have a lot of national or judeo-christian heritage or culture. Prove me wrong: WHERE and WHAT is "New Zealand" culture? I am not sure it exists. Who are you NZ? Do you know? Do you frame your culture around Maori INSTEAD of your anglo-saxon European roots? WHY?!

  1. Hey Saucy!,
You seem to enjoy gardening. Have you ever read on seed packets where it says CULTURAL INSTRUCTIONS.
When I first saw that I thought it was some sort of PC crap to placate the benighted of this world.
Of course it was just simple seed planting advice. My point is this; In the practical sense the word culture is nothing more than a word to embrace those practices that nurture and sustain our day to day lives.
I think that the US is the jewel of nations, but
I think the guy could have made a better case for his claim.
NZ has a culture, but it's more in the "here and now" style than the old world, and maybe even parts of the new.

  2. Hi nzgarry, I sort of understand the 'here and now' style in NZ, but doesn't that mean you are intentionally ignoring the lessons of your nation's history?

Many problems in the USA are because many just live for the 'here and now' and forget the USA's great historical accomplishments.

'here and now' sounds a bit like cultural relativism or moral relativism - doing whatever you like because it feels good at the time.

There seems to be pockets of NZ culture around I can see... mostly cheering for rugby, cricket teams or individual international NZ sport heros and their accomplishments. Is that it though?

NZ seems to have this huge "guilt" factor perpetuating Maoris as "victims" of white, anglo saxon colonialism... hence the Maori separtist, they want their land back (forshore and seabed is OURS!) in the shape of a race based political party. Instead of a unified NZ, sure seems like its a separatist nation with the 85% of non Maori doing their sports, work and build the economy, teach their kids to be leftist, artsy/beachy things... and Maori doing their live-on-the-dole, tattoo, violent beat their children kinda stuff.

Where is the unified "New Zealand Culture" nzgarry? Where is it?

This article was about USA's culture being built around the forming of the nation, declaring independence from Britain and growth by individual freedom, entrepeneurs following a judeo-christian morality and anglo-saxon work ethic. It kicks sorry muslim culture's a&&...

NZ first step is to unify and break free of British rule.... you're not quite even there yet (just my opinion...)

  3. Ok Saucy, point taken, 'here and now' doesn't say much.
The real NZ culture lives in the people who engage with what this country has to offer. For the most part that is the outdoors. Most people I know live in the country. They farm, hunt, fish and go about their lives without reflecting to much on "culture".
But I would argue that they are living examples of NZ culture without even realising it. In fact
the same holds for the American guy/gal who packs their rifle in the back of their pick-up and goes hunting white-tail.
Isn't that a very American thing to do?, and aren't the attitudes and beliefs that go with that a part of American culture?.

In fact I believe NZ has a lot more in common with the US than say the UK. We are both New World peoples whose forebears emigrated to escape the iniquity and injustice of the Old.

I don't know of anyone born in NZ who regards themselves as being ruled by the British. Regarding the Queen/Commonwealth and all that,I
suspect that most of us don't trust our politicians enough to become a Republic. Gutless I know, but the Aussies voted the issue down last time round for the same reason I suspect.
Again, what happens in the UK is less relevant to us than what happens in the US.

By way of example the "guilt" you refer to arose
directly from the multi-cultural ideology practiced in US Universities. It wasn't around in the (say) 1970's. I know, I am 51 years old and have lived here all my life (apart from US 4 years). My point is that a lot of that stuff you see and don't like (I don't either) is just the NZ version of liberalism/PC/post modern/multi cultural leftist cant that has so plagued the world these last few decades.

Ok, that's my rant for today! - have a good weekend.

  4. great feedback nzgarry, thanks for taking the time to write back... I agree with you on most parts and you are spot on about the pc/multi-culturism crap definitely being fostered by leftist liberal institutions.

Americans across the nation are awake, engaged and fighting back (I point to the Nov2010 elections as evidence of that)... I wish NZ would fight back more... I would love to see more oil, coal exportation going on in NZ and for it to grow more prosperous... and even some nuclear energy is a good idea... but the greenies are brainwashing NZ... I hope that stops ...

cheers mate and you great weekend!
