Gone Galt and yelling stop

sub-tropical bloom... pix from my NZ garden this week
Doing a bit of reading today... suddenly realized that without actually meaning to, my husband and I have gone Galt. ha HA

So, what do the terms "going Galt" or "who is John Galt?" mean? I've seen it a few times this year but did not have a full understanding.

From Dr. Helen, the basic theme is that John Galt and his allies take actions that include withdrawing their talents, 'stopping the motor of the world', and leading the 'strikers' (those who refuse to be exploited) against the 'looters' (the exploiters, backed by the government).

(... it would have helped if I had just read Ayn Rand's book "Atlas Shrugged" which I haven't yet...)

Today's "Ah HA!" moment came reading "Ignore Sarah Palin at your own peril" at Conservatives for Palin:

"For Conservatives in America, though, the freight train of Big Government that has picked up steam is frightening, and there are two solutions: Going Galt or standing athwart history yelling ‘Stop!’ To a large degree, we’ve already started Going Galt 2.0**. Businesses are cutting back, laying off and not hiring due to uncertainty about the future; consumers are paying down personal debt as fast as possible, saving more money and, as a result, not spending as much, thus humorously driving down tax revenue; while many Conservatives who just want to be left alone and not taxed to death are entertaining the notion of leaving the country. Of business investment, consumer spending and government spending, only government spending is on the rise. Americans, regardless of politics, are Going Galt whether they realize it or not.

[**For those unfamiliar, Going Galt 2.0 is a reference to John Galt, one of the heroes of Atlas Shrugged, and means quitting your productive job or selling your productive business and either leaving the country or taking a menial job having nothing to do with one’s aptitude in order to starve the government of tax money; using the 2009 Index of Economic Freedom, more extreme GGers are considering moves to nations with similar language and culture, the top two contenders being New Zealand and Australia.]"

...... What? A-HA!

WE MOVED TO NEW ZEALAND IN 2007.... ummm... this means NONE of our hard earned money or taxes goes to the U.S.A. government! So without even knowing is, WE HAVE ALREADY successfully GONE GALT! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.....!!!!!

Is going Galt the answer for you...? It might be...

"Current economic policy directions are making the Going Galt movement more and more prevalent. After all, President Obama ran and won on a platform that promised to take money from those who are productive and redistribute it to those who are not as productive or successful. So where is the incentive to be so productive? Where is the desire to earn more if that only means that more will be taken from you. This leads us to a modern day version of Atlas Shrugged."

Lastly, again from CFP: "To her credit, Sarah Palin has been the lone, consistent bright spot that gives GGers any sign of relief. Gov. Palin apparently has no intention of Going Galt, but she damn-sure seems prepared to yell “Stop!” as repeatedly and loudly as necessary."
