Texas schools teaching kids how lovely and nice Islam is

Here ya go, Texas...  Thanks to potus wannabe Rick Perry, specific details, yes from Pamela Geller, about how they now teach Texas kids about the wonders of Islam!   This sure sounds bad to me...  America doesn't need more teaching false history of Islam in schools.  This is lying.  This is taqiyya.
From the San Antonio Independent School District site:

"What is the Muslim Histories and Culture Project (MHCP)? "

"The Muslim Histories and Cultures Project was born out of discussions between His Highness The Aga Khan and Texas Governor Rick Perry during the Summer 2002, when The Aga Khan was in Houston for the dedication of a new Ismaili Center. Both His Highness and Governor Perry agreed on the need for Texans to have a greater understanding of Islamic culture, and subsequently brought UT-Austin President Larry Faulkner into the discussions. Located in the state capital, Faulkner’s campus is well positioned to accomplish these goals. A series of meetings followed, with the project ultimately finding a home in UT-Austin’s College of Liberal Arts, under the guidance of Dean Richard W. Lariviere, in association with UT Liberal Arts (UT-LA), the college’s teacher preparation program.

In April 2004, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) and UT-Austin finalized a grant proposal that created the partnership that became known as the Muslim Histories and Cultures Program (MHC). Much has happened since the inception of the partnership. Creation and implementation of a model was of prime importance. MHC recruited and directly trained 80 teachers affecting approximately 15,150 students of World History and World Geography in ten key Texas districts during the two sessions conducted in 2005 and 2006. The purpose is two-fold 1) to fulfill Governor Rick Perry's desire to better educate Texas teachers on Muslim topics and 2) to train teachers to use a cultural lens approach to understanding other cultures. Governor Perry was instrumental in getting this program off the ground.

The curriculum for this project was developed at Harvard University and modified at the University of Texas at Austin.

The responsibilities of the participants are:
- to attend the 10 seminars and complete the assigned readings.
- to attend the January, April, and June meetings in Austin.
- to create lessons concerning Islamic topics with a “cultural lens” approach tied to their grade level to share with other teachers.

Dave writes to Pam about this:  "Session 1: Sources of Tradition"

"Abstract: ... "The readings from Following Muhammad also examine the Sources of the Islamic tradition, providing a brief overview of the crucial role that Muhammad as Prophet of Islam and the Qur’an, as scripture of Islam, play in defining Muslim religious, social and political consciousness. We will explore each of these sources in greater detail in Sessions Two, Three and Four. The second set of readings, from Historical Atlas of Islam, after a brief summary of foundational beliefs and practices, survey the historical expansion of Arab Muslim imperial rule beyond the Arabian peninsula, covering the period between 600 to 1100 CE. Maps illustrate how the Islamic faith began in the Arabic world but spread to other areas where local culture, geography, language and ethnicity influenced beliefs and practices. The establishment of Arab rule in the Middle East led to the development of trade routes that were controlled by Muslim merchants, bringing in much wealth to the rapidly growing empires. With political and economic expansion, the Arabic language evolved into an international language of administration, culture, learning and commerce. As Arab power extended over more areas in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region, non Arab traditions, particularly the Persian and the Greco-Roman, were integrated. The result was a cosmopolitan civilization in which Arabic culture played an important part but in which also participated many different ethnic and religious groups. The historical survey concludes with a brief discussion of the Crusades and the attempts by knights from the Christian kingdoms of the Latin West (including England, Scandinavia, Germany, Italy and France) to wrest political control of the Holy Land from Muslim rulers, damaging the positive relations that had previously existed between Muslims and Eastern Orthodox Christians in the Middle East." ...

Say what.....HUH???  I call bullshite... This is just re-writing history to show Islam as good guys! (barf)

American schools should teach AMERICAN history. Teach kids real history.  Teach kids what jihad is.  America needs to FIGHT ISLAM not teach it in false light

Mohammed was evil.  He was a pedophile.  He was pillager and murderer.

Islam needs to be stopped not taught in schools.  It is not a "religion", it is an evil ideology.  Flipping heck, teaching "peaceful" Islam in public schools Texas...? The one thing Islam ISN'T is peaceful.

This ain't cool ...  WHAT SAY YOU TEXAS? ... Perry still your guy?

  1. Lisa,

I would be careful about using Geller for anything as she is half nuts. She once called for the destruction of the Golden Dome!

Also, I would suggest that WE on the right not eat our own candidates with faulty, slanted, or biased info. I have a buddy in San Antonio whose wife teaches in that district and it is run by libs and a majority of the teachers there are libs. Why do the Left's work for them?

If they are teaching it all in a historical context, I have no beef with it, it is history and I am against revisionists who rewrite history.

I use sites like ontheissues and opensecrets to investigate the behind the scenes on stuff like this. ontheissues.org has Perry as a hardcore Conservative and Geller herself is a libertarian, which is why she is attacking Perry.

    Cheers

  2. hi gunny, what is the golden dome, a mosque? If it is, then I would understand an argument against it...

We on the right need to vet our candidates... the left doesn't but we need to...

I'll check out those sites, but I don't see Geller as half nuts in the slightest... she is passionate about educating people to the atrocities that is Islam...

What IS definitely half nuts is promoting and teaching Islam in American school...

in fact that seems a lot more than half

Perry is going to take the heat esp since he decided to jump into the kitchen

    cheers mate

  4. Lisa,

Yes - Perry is still my guy.

  5. so Common Snse, you are OK with programs which promote "Islam is OK"

    Is this a fair conclusion?

  6. Lisa,

No - you present a false choice.

George Washington wrote to a Jewish congregation in Rhode Island to assure them that as long as they were good citizens they were welcome here. Americans feel the same way about Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Sikhs. They are required to obey our laws just like the rest of us.

We have been through this before - check out our turbulent history with Mormons. If Muslims choose to reside in the United States they will be required to follow our laws. If they follow our laws - I have no beef with them. Do I prefer that they share my faith? Absolutely.

Some estimates are that Muslims make up 23% of the world's population. If they keep screwing with us - there will be a lot less. We are going to have to figure out a way to deal constructively with them.

Liberals are a bigger threat to the United States (and the World) right now than US Muslims are. Liberals are also the ones enabling misinformation in the education system about Muslims and reducing our capacity to respond appropriately to Muslim excesses.

Attack Liberals - you get a two-fer that way.

  7. Common Snse, we'll have to agree to disagree because your answer is the world should "deal constructively with muslims" sounds like appeasement to me...

that isn't an "attack", it is what you say reflected back.

Seems like you've drunk the "Islam is a religion of peace" koolaid.

leftists are in bed with pro islamists... deal with it

& going back to Perry's pal Aga Khan, from Aga's own words, he believes "Islam is a faith of reason".

Well, that is just wonderful and peachy keen, isn't it!? DO YOU BUY IT?

    Khan also says:

"Of the Abrahamic faiths, Islam is probably the one that places the greatest emphasis on knowledge. The purpose is to understand God’s creation, and therefore it is a faith which is eminently logical. Islam is a faith of reason."

"Now to the issue of spreading faith by the sword: All faiths at some time in their history have used war to protect themselves or expand their influence, and there were situations when faiths have been used as justifications for military actions. But Islam does not call for that, it is a faith of peace."

"Nobody will ever convince me that the faith of Islam, that Christianity, that Judaism will fight each other in our times -- they have too much in common"

"Anyone who knows the faith of Islam, for example, would have known that the caricatures of the prohet were profoundly offensive to all Muslims."

"I am opposed to unilateral secularism where the notions of faith and ethics just disappear from society."

    http://www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/0,1518,442180,00.html

I wonder which "caricatures" he means? The part about his 'prophet' being a pedophile or murderer? That must suck to admit your guy is one, eh...

Islamic society is ruled by their ideology - that is sharia law... (not compatible with the USA consitution in case you forgot)

Perry pushing pro Islam in schools is a problem... Why don't you admit that? Or do you want to just wait and see how many more Americans can be converte to Islam by the wonderful school education they receive...

Give it a couple decades... The Islamification of America continues - it is their goal and puppets like Perry just help it along

The more we chat the more anti Perry I'm becoming...

  8. Lisa,

I haven't bought into any of that garbage and I don't agree with your straw-man characterization of my points. Dealing constructively with Muslims doesn't equal Islamification. We are dealing constructively with Chinese Communists and have been for 40 years - that doesn't make us communists (though if Obama has his way . . . . ).

Tying such a characterization around Rick Perry's neck is truly grasping at straws.

You are correct friend - we don't seem to be able to have a cogent conversation on this point. We will have to agree to disagree.

  9. Common Snse, its not a strawman. Texas schools apparently are teaching happy-happy Islam and you seem fine with it and are OK with Perry and Aga's collaboration.

I find that odd, not straw. I'll give the final words to Daniel Greenfield at Sultan Knish who says:

"I don't know how much Perry knows or understands. Pandering to Muslims was part of Texas politics. But he's running for nationwide office in a country where Muslims are less of a political force than they are in his state. That may give him more freedom to break with the past.

The very fact that two Texas governors have done it this way suggests that the entire political path to the top is badly contaminated. That it's easier to pander than to take a stand. But while I keep comparing Perry to Bush, and this is a personal view, I don't read the same sincerity in Perry, that I did in Bush. There's too much showmanship and I'm not sure who the man underneath is. He may be more to the right, he may be more to the left, or he may not care at all. As the race continues, it may be easier to get a read on him. Maybe.

The last four years are a reminder that we could do worse than Bush II, but maybe we could do better. With Perry in the race, the two frontrunners, Romney and Perry will be clones of each other. Two aggressively business oriented governors with no real interest in protecting American manufacturing or resisting the Islamization of America. One of whom looks like a Tea Party friendly populist, but more in style than in substance.

Perry may shoot a gun into the air, but his rhetoric is the same old Compassionate Conservatism. He may be more authentically Texan than Bush, but the substance of his ideas is the same. NAFTA, education for illegal aliens, and Islam is a great religion.

Whatever we say and do, he may be the inevitable candidate. The man who merges the strongest points of Huckabee and Romney into one populist friendly package. Who sells a pro-business compassionate conservatism that comes off as a low pain alternative to Obama. But before that it might not be such a bad thing to pore over the details of his record in office.

Perry is certainly an improvement on Obama. But in a race where Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Palin and Gingrich have spoken out about the dangers of Islam-- everyone is gathering to cheer a man who celebrates it. Is this what the struggle of the last 3 years comes down to? Did we go through all this just to put Bush era policies back into office?"

  10. Lisa,

You are putting words in my mouth. I am not advocating Islam and never have. You are dangerously over the edge on this whole thing. Take a deep breath.

    ReplyDelete
  11. OK, if you say so... I will continue to criticize Perry, Bush or any "leaders" who still believe the lie that "Islam is peace".

It isn't peaceful by any stretch and "dealing constructively" with Muslims is shite.

You should read what that nutter Aga really believes... then you might not be so passive in your position that you are OK with Perry promoting Islam in Texas schools...

    have a rethink

    just a suggestion
