busy week with new baby in the house: Kiki

Here are a few shots of our new dog - a 2 year old tri colored, full breed Basenji girl from a breeder in Pleasant Point, NZ. We flew down to Christchurch last week to pick her up.  We had a Basenji (Sheela) for 10 years so we know and love the breed.  See last photo: "Kiki" was a covergirl for Apr 2010 NZ Dog World magazine!  She is a wee cheeky thing...and we think she is darn cute.  Acclimating her to our house, 3 cats and our schedule has been a bit up and down this week. She was used to living with 10 other Basenjis so our house is very quiet.  We don't want to get separation anxiety so I worked from home last week to baby sit her.  We put in an outdoor dog run yesterday for 3 hours... whooo boy, you should have heard the periodic yowling and funky Basenji crying and howls. OK, she doesn't like to be by herself... but we have to work sometimes, girlfriend, you'll have to adjust to a new life - sometimes you'll be alone and outside for awhile.  Don't worry, we'll always be back to give you food and cuddles.  She is trained to sleep in her dog crate at night - so that is good. Couple nights of 3am have-to-go-wee times though.  Luckily I am a light sleeper... welcome to our family Kiki.

  1. I remember the wonderful tribute you paid to Sheela when you lost her. I'm sure Kiki will enjoy the new family she is adopting :-) Hope she gets settled in soon.

That pic on the magazine cover is adorable. She's a star!! Take care. -- SCOTT

  2. she is a cutie, Scott... thanks for dropping by... yes, we loved our little Sheela... Kiki is her own girl, though with her own personality ... we're starting to see it already... she has even did a couple little barks! She's a lot more vocal than Sheela ever was...

  3. She's adorable! Congratulations on the new baby! Hopefully she'll make friends with the cats and then she won't be lonely. Our dogs and cats have always gotten along wonderfully and they play together a lot.

  4. hi Zilla, Kiki is getting along fine with 2 of 3 cats... our little cat George is scared of Kiki so he runs, then Kiki chases... instinct I guess... but we'll keep an eye on everyone :)
