This is Sheela.
She is our Basenji.
We got her from B.R.A.T. (Basenji Rescue And Transport) in 2001.
We think she is about 11-12 years old today. Tonight she is OK and sleeping, but we had a good scare and at 10pm took her to after hours emergency vet. She was sick all day and her last vomit looked bloody. We freaked out a bit and brought her in. Vet thinks she is looking pretty good, probably nothing serious & gave her a few injections. Now its almost midnight, she is out cold sleeping peacefully.
We hope she gets better.
Our pets are a bit like our kids. We have had some pet rats - 5 actually (not all at once) and we were sad when each of them died. I've had to put several cats down in the course of my life. It is never easy, but it is the loving thing to do when your pet is suffering eg from illness or they are just old and its their time.

Basenjis are such a cool breed.
She is a bit older now so we'll carefully monitor her health until her time with us is through. We hope to enjoy her presence for a few more years.
We love you Sheela!
5 rats. Wow. I guess people can get emotionally attached to just about any animal they bring into their life. My sister in law once had a pet snake. I don't understand why anyone would want a snake for a pet, but to each his own.
ReplyDeleteHope Sheela gets better soon. She's lucky to have been adopted by such a caring person.

thanks for the good wishes, Scott... I have a friend who has a little orange colored pet snake. "Crunch" is pretty cool... for a snake! I knew a person a few years back who had a pet squirrel. Yep, people have all sorts of odd animals for pets! :)
